The disbursement of cash assistance to 620 internally displaced persons (IDPs) across six sites in the Central Zone of Tigray has been successfully completed, marking a significant milestone in ongoing humanitarian efforts in the region.
This intervention was made possible through the support of the Ethiopian Humanitarian Fund (EHF) and the New Millennium Women Empowerment Organization (NMWEO), in collaboration with Heal Our People (HOP). Each beneficiary received ETB 27,277.4, distributed in two rounds, bringing the total amount disbursed to ETB 16,911,988. Importantly, among the recipients were 108 persons with disabilities (PWDs), ensuring that the assistance was inclusive.
The Zonal Social Affairs Head highlighted that the beneficiary selection process was conducted in a fair and transparent manner, reinforcing trust in the accountability of the intervention. He expressed deep appreciation for the timely support provided by HOP and the donors, noting that the cash assistance has offered immediate relief to families facing heightened protection risks.
The official further emphasized the importance of sustaining such interventions, not only within IDP sites but also among host communities, where vulnerabilities remain acute. He called for continued collaboration between humanitarian actors and donors to strengthen resilience, reduce reliance on negative coping mechanisms, and ensure dignity and protection for displaced families.
