HOP is registered as a national NGO to operate all over Ethiopia. However, currently it’s operating in Tigray Region only. HOP have active projects in Mekelle city, Eastern and Central zones.
Major Achievements
CCCM
HOP implemented 4 CCCM projects that benefitted 65, 287 IDPs in 13 IDP sites at Mekelle, Adigrat, Abyi- Ady and Wukro from 15 August 2021-31 July 2023 with donor’s support. HOP sustained the implementation of Abyi-Ady and Wukro CCCM projects through internal resources until November 2023. The goal of the CCCM projects is to serve beneficiaries that are identified as the most vulnerable individuals in the affected communities to receive direct life‐saving and protection assistances and to respect the rights of all displaced persons and meet their needs in a way that supports their dignity.
Improving the living conditions, ensuring assistance and protection of IDPs in collective displacement sites while also seeking durable solutions to end temporary displacement were the specific objectives of the project. Detailed project activities framed around the CCCM pillars of service coordination and information management, community participation and self-governance, site closure and decommissioning and capacity building were under implementation based on the minimum standards of CCCM.
The projects have been implemented with the financial and technical support of IOM/RRF at a cost of $ 148,000
ESNFI
HOP’s humanitarian works commenced with the housing of 864 HH IDPs displaced from Erob Wereda in a negotiated private unfinished building at Mekelle which HOP made it habitable by investing on WASH facilities including toilets, showers and handwashing facilities. Through a project on repair of community residential houses damaged due to the war in Tigray, HOP managed to benefit 284 households in Hawzen Wereda, Eastern Zone, Tigray. Households selected and verified through participatory process based on the criteria of vulnerability and humanitarian principle were supported with house repair materials together with repair kits. Out of the total beneficiaries 78 % were women headed households. The project has been run though the financial and technical support of IOM/EHF and a total of $64,000 has been committed for its implementation. In order to contribute to creating dignified living conditions for those displaced by conflict, HOP distributed nonfood items to 1250 households at a cost of $64,000. Rehabilitation of schools in Wukro at a cost of $7000 were also among the components of the HOP ESNFI project. The financial and technical support to implement these projects has come from IOM/RRF.
Nutrition
HOP committed its internal resources for procurement and distribution of high energy biscuit that played a crucial role in providing nutritional assistance to children and adults during the emergencies and crises
Education
Starting from 1 December 2023 HOP is implementing Education in Emergency and WASH services in Abi-Adi and the Kola-Tembien woredas to benefit 6,281 school children and 205 teachers in Adigidi, Gurero, Lisanu and Begasheka schools. Vital components of this project are teachers’ training on the INEE’s TiCC Curriculum, training of teachers to increase community cohesiveness and violence prevention in the learning environment, establishing and equipping Safe Healing and Learning Spaces, Provision of PSS/ SEL training for teachers and conducting PSS sessions with teachers and children.
A financial support of ETB 3,750,000 has been secured form People in Need (PIN) for implementation of this project.
Livelihood
Since November 2023 HOP has begun the implementation of a project on psychosocial and economic rehabilitation of 1600 conflict affected IDPs and host communities at Wukro and Kilteawlaelo Weredas. The general objective of the project is improving the psycho-social and economic well-being of war survivors. Specifically it seeks to stimulate the productive fabric of women survivors of sexual violence and abuses as sustainable alternatives for dignified life, develop the mental health and psycho-social knowledge and skills war survivors of violence and abuses among crisis affected communities in the project areas ( at least 50 % women) , improve the living conditions of war survivor conflict affected communities through provision of shelter rehabilitation NFIs and identify advocacy issues for awareness rising in Ethiopia. The project will continue to be implemented for the duration of one year with the financial and technical support of EGOAIZIA at a total cost of Euro 75,578.74
Protection
HOP has been involved in the provision of psychosocial counselling support (PSS) and cash support services to survivors of Gender Based violence (GBV) at Mekelle and Adigrat from own resource. Besides, HOP took the initiative and commissioned the assessment on status of HLP right protection in Hawzen and Nebelet Weredas. Results of the assessment has been presented in the weekly subnational protection cluster and useful evidences, conclusions and recommendations have been taken from the study result.
