On October 12, 2024, forty girls and women graduated after a two- month training program in cultural and modern food preparation. This milestone ceremony, attended by key government officials from the Shire administration Office, UN agencies, and various international NGOs operating in Shire, highlighted a significant step towards empowering the community.
The Executive Director of HOP, Mr. Daniel, delivered a keynote address, emphasizing the vital role of the Canada Embassy in supporting this program. He highlighted the transformative impact of these efforts on the lives of the trainees and the broader community.
These trainees, who are internally displaced persons residing in three IDP sites in Shire for the past three years, have gained invaluable skills and knowledge that will open new opportunities for them. Their vocational training was part of the peace initiative program funded by the Canadian embassy in Ethiopia.
The city bureau of social affairs has committed to creating job opportunities for these graduates in the near future, ensuring that their newly acquired skills translate into tangible employment and self-sufficiency. This initiative exemplifies the power of vocational training in transforming lives and fostering sustainable development in the region.
