Establishment of Tigray Localization Working Group

On 18 September 2024, the Tigray Localization Working Group was officially established, marking a significant milestone in the region’s development efforts. The inaugural meeting was attended by key regional leaders, including General Zewdu, Head of the Social and Rehabilitation Bureau; Mrs. Meaza, Head of Finance and Resource Mobilization; Mr. G/her, Regional Disaster Risk Management Commission (DRMC); and sixteen representatives from local Civil Society Organizations (CSOs). The primary objective of this working group is to advance localization principles, empowering local actors and communities to take a leading role in humanitarian and development initiatives. This includes strengthening local capacities, promoting community participation, improving coordination, and enhancing the sustainability of development efforts.

The working group has nominated Mr. Daniel Admasu, Executive Director of HOP, as the chairperson, with Mr. Girmay Kahsay from ROAD W and Mr. Amaniel from DPO serving as co-leads. All stakeholders are encouraged to communicate and collaborate closely with the working group leaders on any localization agenda in the region. The establishment of the Tigray Localization Working Group underscores the commitment of all stakeholders to work together in achieving these goals. By fostering a cooperative environment, the working group aims to ensure that local communities are actively involved in decision-making processes, thereby fostering a sense of ownership and accountability. This initiative is poised to develop sustainable, culturally appropriate solutions that will benefit the Tigray region in the long term.
